I had the pleasure of reading this book “Traction” over the weekend! I wish I had read it two decades ago. Could have been useful in every small company I have been part of or started and built.
Quite often, you read many different books and they all take you down deep in one area of what you need to know and have lots of unnecessary details, theories, exercises and leave the other aspects unaddressed.
Gino Wickman has condensed all you need to know to be successful in Business in this short but extremely useful and vaiualble book “Traction”.
He addresses the essential ingredients of business into what he calls an Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). He breaks them down into six parts – The Vision, The People, The Data, The Issues, The Processes and The Traction.
I have seen endless meetings where you get into what a Vision is Vs Mission vs Objectives, etc only to emerge completely confused. All you need is one – just a Vision! Couldn’t be any simpler. You can roll vision, mission, values all into it and make it simple for yourselves and others in your company.
Gino then addresses The People – Right people in the right seats! No Wrong people in the right seats or right people in the wrong seats – Both these happen all the time!
Data addresses Metrics – Metrics drive behavior so before fixing the metrics, figure out what behavior you want!
The Issues – Issues when not addressed derail operations, people, chase away the right people that are already in the right seats, etc. Unearth them and address them.
The Processes – Design, Manufacture, Selling, Finance, Warehousing, Shipping are all processes – Figure out what your processes ought to be and put them down in practice. Without processes thetre is no discipline!
The Traction – Finally you need to see whether you are progressing towards your goals and Gino provides a real nice way to break down 10 year Vision goals to 3 year goals, 1 year goals and finally 90- day goals he calls “The Rocks”.
Splendid Book – Business could not be any simpler! Would recommend this book to anybody!
