From Delegate to Elevate

Do you ever get stuck on how to delegate effectively? Have you ever considered that delegation can be done creatively?

Elevate To Your Unique Ability

I worked with a leadership team that came up with these eight ways to delegate in order to elevate to its unique ability.

D – Delegate. Delegation requires trust in yourself and others. This is when you entrust a task or responsibility to another person. Synonyms for delegate are assign, turn over, transfer, or authorize.

E – Eliminate It. Is it really important that you or the organization still do this task? You could simply stop doing it altogether if it isn’t adding any value.

L – Let It Go. Sometimes you have to let go of a task or process. Controlling everything or striving for perfection will only hold you and the team back.

E – Expert Resources. Have you ever considered outsourcing? There are resources that are better at doing certain tasks in less time, and many times for less money than you doing it yourself.

G – GWC™. You can’t delegate unless you put people resources in place that GWC their seat on an Accountability Chart. They must Get it, Want it, and have the Capacity to do the job well.

A – Automate. Could technology help reduce the time it takes to do certain tasks or projects? Would your capacity be freed up if you automated parts of your role?

T – Track It. A big fear of some leaders is not knowing if the person they delegated to is doing the job well. We can delegate effectively if we measure what gets done in a Scorecard or as a seat measurable.

E – Elevate. Now that you’ve delegated, you’re ready to elevate to your unique ability. This is the point when you are loving what you do and the organization is getting the most from you – your highest and best use!
