Five Elements of The EOS Life

The heart of Abbott Coaching is to help other business owners, leaders, and eventually, all employees live their ideal lives, both personally and professionally. While there are some benefits to keeping strong boundaries, it is inevitable that these two parts of our lives often operate hand-in-hand. Therefore, finding the right balance and blend can be vital to the success of a business and the contentment of a business owner.

The Entrepreneurial Operating System® (EOS), created by Gino Wickman, is a system that helps provide an understanding of ways to live your ideal life. His latest book, The EOS Life: How To Live Your Ideal Entrepreneurial Life steps through five points, which I’ve outlined below:

1. Doing what you love

This first point may seem like both the easiest and hardest. It is often easy to define what you love or who you love, but it is an entirely separate feat to actually do what you love. And even if you find a way to do what you love, how do you turn that into something sustainable and profitable? Discovering your purpose/passion/cause is an important step in the EOS Journey.

2. With people you love

Navigating life with people you love is a must. Life is hard and work is hard, but thankfully you don’t have to do hard things on your own. Partnering with people that you love to be around and whom you trust can exponentially help your business. Joining forces with those whose values align with yours can ensure a strong foundation for your business. Also, collaborating with people who have different skillsets can help your business thrive. We are not all strong in the same areas so working alongside someone who brings forth a unique quality that you may lack can be a huge benefit. The more you surround yourself with people you value and admire, the more you can serve people you love.

3. Making a huge difference and impact

At the end of the day, business means more if it is making a difference around us. A successful business will obviously impact our own lives as well, but its heart should be to make a positive impact in the lives of others and the world we live in. Our business mission is, or should be, so much bigger than ourselves. If the first point is the what of your life and the second point is the who, then this point is the why — and the why is often the most important part of a business.

4. Being compensated appropriately

While money should not be the number one focus of a business, we cannot ignore the fact that it is an important component. People should always come before profit, but profit can also allow you to impact more people. You are talented and your hard work should be recognized accordingly. This element may have to grow and evolve over time and with intentionality and consistency, it will.

5. With time for other passions

If all you do is spend time on our business, then you are likely to face burnout or a breakdown at some point. Your life might feel like it is revolving around your business, but you must still have the freedom and energy to invest in other aspects of your life. It has been said before that you need a well-rounded variety of hobbies or passions that tap into different areas of your life. These areas include but are not limited to physical, mental, and emotional. Having passions that get your body moving, your mind learning, and your heart overflowing will make you a better version of yourself.

This is truly my mission in life – that everyone gets to do what they love with the people they love, while making a difference, being compensated well, & having time for other passions.
