Departmental V/TO™
So, you’ve nailed your V/TO™ for the business, and have been communicating throughout the organisation – well on the path towards ‘Shared by All’ – well done!
What’s even more exciting, is that your departmental leaders also want to apply the same discipline within their teams, and are asking ‘should we also create a V/TO™ for our departments?’
This is a question that faces many leadership teams on the path towards ‘running your business on EOS’, and a good sign that you are well on the path to mastery.
So, how do you create a ‘Departmental V/TO™? Do you need to answer all 8 questions, and when is the right time to do so?
How and When
Firstly, you should only begin to consider this after your leadership team has mastered the EOS Foundational tools – (Accountability Chart, ROCKS, Meeting Pulse, Scorecard and VTO), and each department understands these tools are applying them consistently.
You may be ready 9 months into your journey, or 2 years – every business is different, so don’t rush it!
Try it first with a single department, let’s say Operations for example. This team, with the facilitation of your Operations Departmental leader, will create their own 1 Year Plan, Quarterly ROCKS, and Issues List. Any ROCKS owned by the Department Leader should be listed here.
The ideal timing for this is after the Leadership Team has completed their Annual planning session – With the V/TO™ updated, communicated and understood. This will give the departmental team a clear view of the goals for the year and the biggest priorities for the quarter ahead.
What it looks like
After testing and learning first with a single Department, you will be better equipped to apply this process across the organisation. With some practice, ultimately each of your departments will create their own ‘Departmental Traction’ page.
With the Company V/TO™ and Departmental Traction applied throughout the organisation, your people will really feel connected to the company Vision!
Most importantly, they will understand what it means for them, what their roles are in contributing to this vision, and will want to be a part of it. This is an amazing place to be!
