JoBen Barkey was running two Soccer Shots Franchises when he read Traction and Rocket Fuel. He realized he checked every Visionary trait on the list but lacked most of the Integrator™ skills, so he decided to post a job and hire an Integrator for his business.

“I needed literally everything in the Integrator description. It is the opposite of me, and I was the limiting factor. I had all the big dreams, I had all the ideas that no one else was coming up with, but I needed help achieving them and making them a reality.” – JoBen Barkey [00:50]

After sorting through more than 100 job applications, he met and hired Nancy Orozco, now fractional Integrator and president. Impressed by her directness, confidence, and alignment with his values, JoBen knew he had found the missing piece to his puzzle. Together, they embarked on a journey to positively impact children’s lives through their business.

In this episode, you’ll hear from JoBen and Nancy on how they built trust and established a successful Visionary/Integrator relationship that leverages their complementary strengths. They discuss the importance of hiring individuals who enjoy tasks you dislike and the value of having a clear job description when hiring an Integrator. They also touch on the significance of self-awareness and continuous personal growth in the Visionary/Integrator relationship.

“We learned what the other person wanted. And by showing up and trying to speak each other’s language, we were able to develop trust even when we’re on the opposite side of things.” — JoBen Barkey [9:40]

Their journey is a testament to the power of leveraging complementary strengths and building trust in business partnerships.

The EOS Toolbox™ has a piece in the 5 Rules and 5 Tools™ that perfectly fits this power leveraging – the Integrator Tie Breaker. Knowing how to balance the decision-making process starts at the beginning, in the Integrator Job Description.

If you’re an entrepreneur looking to maximize success by leveraging your team’s different skill sets, this episode of Rocket Fuel is a must-listen.

About The Rocket Fuel Podcast

Every outstanding entrepreneurial business has a common element that launched it to success.

It has a Visionary who sees the big picture, envisions the future, and lives for challenge and risk. It also has an Integrator™, who works behind the scenes executing the business plan and doing the backbreaking work of making the Visionary’s dreams a reality.

On their own, these two types of leaders have potential, but together they form an essential relationship that propels their business to new heights – we call that Rocket Fuel™.

Join real and raw conversations with the world’s top entrepreneurial duos as they talk about their journey to getting more of what they want from their business. Hosted by Mark C. Winters, Visionary and co-author of Rocket Fuel.
