Running a business is no simple task. Many entrepreneurs, business owners, and executives find themselves stuck in the weeds of their company’s operations. Whether they’re in the office, hanging out with friends, or spending time with family at home, they can’t escape the lingering questions that stem from their business. How will I put out this fire? How can I open new revenue streams? Can I add another client to my overflowing workload?
In this episode of Where There’s a Will There’s a Way, Lauren Carson joins host and EOS Implementer Will Crist to discuss how EOS radically transformed her business. Lauren is the Founder and CEO of Kinect Solar, which sells solar energy equipment on the excess market––in simple terms, it is the TJ Maxx of solar-power equipment. In their conversation, they cover delegating and elevating, living the EOS life, hiring the right people, contributing to the world around them, appropriately compensating employees, and much more. Delegate and Elevate
The concept of Delegate and Elevate is all about identifying your unique gifts and freeing up your time and energy to maximize your talents. Why work on projects you don’t enjoy or aren’t good at when you could be working on projects that you love?
“When I started out on the entrepreneurial journey, I didn’t have enough understanding. I assumed most people were like me, but there’s somebody for everything.” (5:21) – Lauren Carson
Putting this concept in action, we encourage team members to write down every task they complete throughout a week. The individual will then organize each of their tasks into four categories.
- Tasks you like to do and are good at
- Tasks you like to do but aren’t good at
- Tasks you don’t like to do but are good at
- Tasks you don’t like to do and are not good at
Team members will then work to delegate tasks from the final category to other team members who better fit the tasks in question. Eventually, each person will only handle tasks they like completing and are good at.“For the first couple of years starting the company, I had my hands in sales, I had my hands in procurement operations, customer service, and finance. While the company was doing well, I was literally losing my mind…I can say unequivocally that we would not be where we are today if we hadn’t found the EOS system.” (1:50) – Lauren CarsonThe EOS Life
While EOS integration might seem like something applicable only to business owners and executives, the EOS Life is built with everyone in mind. We hope that businesses will bestow the principles of EOS onto their employees. Five essential characteristics represent the EOS Life.
- Doing only what you love
- Working with people you love
- Making a contribution
- Being compensated appropriately
- Having plenty of time for your passions, family, and personal life
“If you’re able to establish those five principles and have a healthy working environment where people feel like their contributions matter, then it spreads beyond just the company. That spreads to your customers, your vendors, and even their families.” (6:45) – Lauren Carson
