In May 2013, Mark Dantonio, head coach of the Michigan State Spartan football team visited the Rose Bowl in California. His daughter took a video of her father predicting the Spartan’s Rose Bowl victory this season. You can find the video here.
Mark did lead the team to a Rose Bowl victory on January 1st, 2014. He began with the end in mind, predicting the future, making his vision more tangible, more real, and within reach. More importantly, he was effective at making his vision clear to his team.
The rare combination of making a vision tangible with disciplined execution is a highly desired trait among many entrepreneurs today. It’s not the lack of vision that frustrates most; rather it’s the struggle to gain traction towards that vision. In sessions with clients, I have observed many leadership teams struggle to make their vision a reality for one of two reasons:
- Being too busy with the day to day, not having enough time
- Having too many opportunities, not following through
In EOS, I help entrepreneurs to clarify, simplify, and achieve their vision. One simple and powerful tool in the EOS Process is the Vision Traction Organizer (VTO). The VTO contains 8 sections. Your leadership team must be 100% on the same page with each one:
- Core Values
- Core Focus
- 10 Year Target
- Marketing Strategy
- 3 Year Picture
- 1 Year Plan
- Rocks
- Issues List
Ensuring your leadership team is 100% on the same page with your VTO and sharing it with everyone in your company every 90 days will save you time and help you to overcome the “busyness” of the day-to-day. This will also improve your teams’ traction by increasing accountability, agreeing on priorities, and efficiently managing all the opportunities. As a result your team will be clearer, more confident, and energized about the future. Best of all this is the fastest way to turn your predictions into reality.
