Mark O’Donnell shares how to build a personal plan in his recent Forbes article, “Three Keys To A Here-And-Now Personal Plan Built For Leaders.”
Business leaders often struggle with their mental well-being in an uncertain world just like everyone else. As a result, their businesses suffer.
To combat this, create a strong personal plan, one that is informed by your past includes goals for your future, and aligns with your purpose for your life and your business. You’ll find happiness and fulfillment by reflecting on all you’ve done. Allow the positive emotions to overshadow the urge to focus on what you still have to accomplish.
Follow these steps to create a personal plan:
- Begin At The End: Picture your funeral during your next Clarity Break™. What do you hope people say about you? The answer to that question will show you what you value most. Use your personal values to create a checklist of what you’d like to accomplish in the next 10 years. Break those 10-year goals down into smaller goals for the next one to five years.
- Reassess every 90 days: Ask yourself what you need to do each quarter to get closer to your one-year plan and five-year goals, similar to an EOS® Quarterly meeting. Focus on these priorities for the next 90 days. Reflect on your accomplishments. Evaluate which goals are realistic.
- Take the punches as you go: Remember that your plan might not unfold as you expected. That’s okay! Face your setbacks head-on. You can overcome anything to reach your goals with this type of confidence.
“You’ll be surprised at how pure momentum can have a positive effect on your outlook,” Mark writes.
