Brian Sullivan, founder of Sullivan Engineering, dives into how delegating tasks to your team brings you closer to achieving your EOS Life®. He focuses on the benefits of defining your core values and having processes in place that allow you, your team, family, and community to thrive.
A Powerful (But Gentle) Nudge
Brian has worked in building envelope restoration, a niche which restores the outsides of buildings, his entire career. After working in the field for ten years, Brian considered starting his own company, but he was plagued with self-doubt.
He recalls that without a few helpful nudges from his wife, he may have never had the courage to strike out on his own. His advice? Don’t underestimate the impact a gentle nudge can make.
Entrepreneurial Freedom
In the first years of Sullivan Engineering, Brian was working his tail off. After nearly five years of working 85 hours per week, he knew he needed to cut back — especially when his children began asking if his office was his home.
Brian says that defining his company’s core values and implementing processes was a turning point in his EOS Life journey. Having a business system in place allowed him to address issues head-on, rather than reducing problems to the person or personality who caused them to surface.
Eventually, Brian became so good at implementing the EOS Delegate and Elevate™Tool that he determined that he needed to sell his business to a larger company. He felt this was the only way to give his team the opportunities they deserved.
[34:17] “For me, it just brings so much joy seeing people accomplish even more than they ever thought they could.”
This shift also gave Brian freedom to start coaching his kids’ sports teams and spend more time doing charitable work. He shares that one reason why he pushed his company’s growth was so that he could make a bigger charitable impact.
Have Confidence to Start Living Your Ideal Life
Brian advocates for living your EOS Life — not tomorrow, not in retirement, but now.
[39:26] “Have the confidence in yourself to invest in yourself and the EOS Life®… Once I had the confidence in myself and our team that we could do it… man, the ball just started rolling!”
Ask yourself what you want to do with your time and take your response seriously. Even if you’ve been on the entrepreneurial journey for many years, it’s not too late to start living your EOS Life.
